North America’s NTRIP landscape splits fairly cleanly along two lines: free government-run networks and paid commercial/agricultural services. In the US, NOAA’s CORS network underpins most state-level real-time networks (like NYSNet or InCORS), many of which are free to register for and provide sub-decimeter to centimeter accuracy near populated corridors.
Coverage thins out fast in rural and mountainous areas, though, which is where commercial VRS providers and community casters like RTK2GO tend to fill the gaps, often at the cost of consistent uptime guarantees. Canada and Mexico have less dense free coverage overall, so checking a provider’s actual station map (not just their marketing coverage claim) before committing to a subscription is worth the five minutes it takes.
